let me ask you a question…
if you could sell your current home for about the same price as a brand new home that is much more to your liking (design/layout/location), would you?

that’s what Ashleigh and I are considering. we’re testing the housing market waters to see if our 5 year old home will fetch a pretty enough penny to where we can make a lateral move to another home:
- this new home would be in the same community as we’re currently in, but we’ve been eyeing it for over a year now — more like a year and a half.
- it would be a new build — having looked at a bunch of different models/layouts in the area, and considering our current layout, we’ve both decided on a particular layout that really makes sense to us. it may not be a “dream home” but it seems to suit us well.
all in all, it means a comparably-sized physical space that is better layed-out and suits us better overall. plus, we’d be in walking distance to community amenities — tot-lot/playground, pool, community/rec center, groceries/shopping, restaurants, paved trail.
here’s our attitude about it…
while we’d love to see this happen, we’re not so enamored with the idea that we’d be devastated if couldn’t sell our home and buy the home we’d prefer. sure, we’d be disappointed, but we’re fairly content with our current home and would not be opposed to staying longer — if nothing else, we’ve decluttered and fixed/painted a few rooms in the process.
we understand we can’t expect to get everything we want, especially in an economy that is still working itself out. we figure, “let’s take a shot” — we’ll give it a go and see what shakes out.
obviously, the “plan” and hope is to sell our home — hopefully there is a family that “needs” our home enough to pay the asking price. then, we’d pack-up and move into a rental townhome. in the meantime, we’d go through the new home building process, and hopefully by Fall/Winter time, we’d be in a new home!
