there’s a new kid in town!

hi.  meet sam.  he’s the new kid in town. good lookin’ kid, eh?

he’s still adjusting to things — after all, a transplant out of foster care in korea to a new life in the united states would leave most anyone feeling a little bit uncertain and uneasy about the world.  he usually maintains a certain blank pallet as he observes all the new faces and smells and scenery.

sam has his “good” moments as he expresses excitement at the things that make him happy.  and a growing familiarity with us, his new parents and sister, helps him ease into feeling more secure and loved.

naturally, sam get sad and mad on many occasions as he has fears, anxieties, and frustrations to overcome. most things he’d be familiar with have disappeared — tastes, smells, sights, habits, etc… they’ve all changed.  the things that he had been attached to have been severed and any new bonds are going to take some time to be renewed with us.

he’s learning to cope, and sam now has a big sister that is gonna take real good care of him!

sam seems to be adjusting at a reasonable pace.  he’s showing signs of affection as well as stubbornness, and he seems to be a quick study of the world around him.  he eats fairly well and is very unhappy when it comes to changing diapers or clothes or taking a bath.  it’s all still a bit early and he is making do with the transition as best he can.  progress reports in the coming weeks and months will shed light on what adjustments he’s made and whatever else is happening to the kid.  here’s to looking forward to what new adventures this new life will bring — welcome to our world!
