Gone in 60 Days

I’m gonna take 60 days and make a concentrated effort to lose weight and get fit. I’m starting a Gone in 60 Days” weightloss and fitness challenge and the invite is open to anyone!

Will you join me?

SOMETHING MUST BE DONE…………

I need to do something about this.

Over the past few years I had joined a few blogging pals on a few “challenges” to lose some weight — the Big Butt Weight Loss Challenge… Tri to Lose… Ragamuffintop Challenge. I also dabbled with adjusting eating habits with the South Beach Diet and portion control, as well as engage in a few bouts of running and even run a 4-miler last year.

As a result of these “efforts” I have lost nearly 30 pounds in 4-5 years. I was about 230lbs… and chipped my way down to a brief 198lbs before settling up at about 205lbs.

My aim all along was to get under 200lbs, and more specifically, I was hoping to achieve somewhere between 190 and 195…… I didn’t get that far. For the past year, I’ve fluctuated but contentedly kept to hanging around 205lbs. Recently, I’ve crept up to a consistent 210lbs, and clearly my poor eating habits, coupled with a lack of regular physical activity, has gotten me a few extra pounds.

HARRY’S MOOBS…………

I recently made a two-fold “discovery” that has added to my trivial knowledge base, but also increased my desire to do something about trimming the fat.

I was always curious about that closing title card on TV productions by Bad Hat Harry Productions

Now, you can clearly see the origin of “Bad Hat Harry,” but when I saw the Jaws clip, I was truly mortified at the thought of my moobs ending up looking like Harry’s moobs one day!!!  (Go ahead and take another look at Harry’s moobs!)

FYI… I’m not sure where it came from, but in case you didn’t know, the word “moob” refers to man-boobs.  ;-)

I’M GOING SUB 200…………

By most non-standard standards (like you and everyone else), I’m average – but by the the “official” standards (like doctors and institutions, I am obese – they say I should be down in the 180-190 range.  Either way, I’m probably a little overweight… and losing some extra pounds is a really good idea.

Losing a little bit of my gut, trimming the muffintop, and reducing moob-age is a good thing.  Not to mention, lightening the load will reduce joint-pain in my knees, hopefully reduce my propensity for snoring in my sleep, put a little extra pep in my attitude and step, and get me into some of my clothes without having to suck in my gut or worry about popping buttons.

So, I am starting a 60-day project to lose 11 or more pounds and get under 200lbs.  I’m calling it “Gone in 60 Days.” Yeah, yeah, yeah… I know… it’s a spoof on the Nic Cage flick, “Gone in 60 Seconds.”

WHO’S IN?…………

If you’re in a similar boat as me, then why don’t you take the next 60 days to get your weight and health in check and curb some of your poorer eating habits? The “Gone in 60 Days” challenge begins Monday, July 5, 2010. Sixty days takes us through Friday, September 3, 2010.

Here’s how you can participate and help all of us keep a little bit of accountability amongst us fellow “losers.”  ;-)

I have set up a challenge page over at DailyBurn.com. This site is a very cool FREE site that allows you to track what you eat, record your workouts, find people to keep you accountable, and gain tips and insights about health, nutrition, and exercise. There is also a pay version if you’d like to take advantage of the other features.

  1. If you don’t already have an account, GO GET YOU ONE!
  2. Explore and setup your profile, statistics and goals.
  3. JOIN the Gone in 60 Days challenge group.
  4. Invite others to join in on the challenge to help motivate you along!

Unless there is someone out there that would be generous enough to donate an award, there is no prize for “winning” this challenge.

I’m looking forward to the challenge and seeing how you and I shape up at the end of 60 days!

FYI… my efforts will include the South Beach Diet, and I’m thinkin’ possibly a modified/simplified slower-paced version of the P90X program (maybe).
